me and max

There’s no more dancing with the dogs when the kids go off to school. No more quiet days of writing and waiting for 2:30. Those days are gone. At least for the 2011-2012 school year. For the past fourish months I’ve been (drum roll please)…a homeschooler…  I know!

Two still have the hurried morning of shower, dress, eat, brush, brush (teeth and hair, icyw) and gather. But that dear, sweet middle one has been told time and time again NOT to set an alarm in the morning…so he can get plenty of sleep and not yawn endlessly through math. Our reasons aren’t many but very real, and I won’t go into that. I will say it took us two years from the idea being said aloud and then passed into and out of favor from me to him, him to me before we made the final decision. Unlike almost all my other decisions, this was not an impulse thing.

I have lost my free time, but I no longer mourn for it. How many people can say that they spend every school day one on one with only one bright, super creative thirteen year-old? (That was not sarcasm, in case you couldn’t tell.) Will I bring the other two home? Barring a very large change in their characters or performance, absolutely not. For my family, homeschool is not for everyone.

It’s for me and my Max.
